3TíR in concert

On Sunday, July 9th, Ontario-style fiddler Pierre Schryer is playing at the Tranzac Club, along with Dermot Byrne and Adam Dobres. Their group is called 3TíR. I can’t find the price posted anywhere, but I assume it’s in the $20 range. You can see them on video from their facebook page. Remember, Tranzac Club members (only $30 for a whole year) often receive discounts on admission.  

FrancoFEST (Hamilton)

AlgomaTrad family camp

he 14th Annual Algoma Traditional Music, Dance, and Heritage Arts Family Camp 2017 (AlgomaTrad 2017) is OPEN FOR REGISTRATION. The camp runs from Sunday evening, August 13 to Saturday morning, August 19. AlgomaTrad Camp 2017 is not a residential camp. All registrants are responsible for their own accommodation. Camping is available, and their website lists local B&Bs, etc. This is one of those camps that can change young lives.

Millrace Folk festival

When: August 4, 2017 – August 6, 2017 all day
Where: Downtown, Cambridge, ON, Canada

This is a free festival, with stages scattered about downtown. The Mill Race stage is the main venue, and there are plenty of pub sessions and singing sessions, so bring your voices and instruments. Morris dancing has been known to break out. While they do often have French-Canadian music, the focus of this festival is mainly English folk music and dance. Many of the artists who perform at Goderich will be at this festival. Because this is a free festival, if you do go, please consider supporting the festival by buying a programme and a t-shirt or other festival merchandise.

Goderich Celtic Roots festival

When: August 11, 2017 – August 13, 2017 all day
Where: Lions Harbour Park, Goderich, ON, Canada

Passes go on sale in May, and cost less before July 31. Hotels are booked far in advance, and there is a campground nearby. It’s a very friendly festival, and many people have been going there for many, many years. Great artisans, the food is expensive. There is a main stage in the evening, and four stages (earth, air, fire, water) during the day. The music is trad or trad-inspired Celtic music. Festival Mémoires et racines

This is the 23rd year for FMR, widely considered THE premier music festival in Quebec. Go! Don’t expect to sleep.
